RMH ORGANIZES SPECIAL SCREENING FOR PEOPLE WITH ALBINISM

Rwanda Military Hospital in partnership with UNDP Rwanda and Organization for the Promotion and Integration of People with Albinism(OIPPA) have organized on 2nd May 2019, a one day medical screening for people with Albinism.
The one day screening will focus on dermatology and ophthalmology issues as they are the main problems that hinder everyday life of people with Albinism.
Launching this activity RMH Commandant assured people with albinism that this activity will continue because no one should be left behind due to his/her disability. He urged everyone to protect themselves from the sun and bring children to the hospital as soon as they are born so the prevention can start early.
The UNDP representative Ms Roselyn Sinemani, thanked the government of Rwanda for its commitment to helping people with disability and to Rwanda Military Hospital for facilitating this important activity for people with Albinism.
The OIPPA representative Mr Hakizimana Nicodem said people with alibinism appreciate this effort to make their lives better and requested more effort in raising awareness so people can stop considering them as a curse and integrate them in the society, he also said they are always worried for their security since they hear stories of killings of people with albinism in East Africa region but they are happy that in Rwanda they feel safe and the government makes more effort to ease their integration.
During this activity people with albinism were also thought how to dress correctly to protect their skin from the sun and were given sun lotion to use every day for their protection.
