RMH MANAGEMENT STAFFS CONDUCT A WALK RO REMEMBER IN HONOUR OF 1994 GENOCIDE VICTIMS

On 24 April 2015, the Management and Staffs of Rwanda Military Hospital together with Children from Niboyi 

Peace Village conducted a walk to remember in honour of 1994 genocide against Tutsi victims.

The walk to remember started at Kicukiro trading centre to Nyanza Genocide memorial site where they paid tribute 

to the victims of 1994 genocide against theTutsi. Nyanza Memorial site holds at least 11,000 victims of genocide 

the victims were killed by former government forces and militia Interahamwe after they were abandoned by 

UN Forces (MINUAR) during the genocide .

From Nyanza genocide memorial Rwanda Military Hospital staff visited genocide orphans at Niboyi Peace village. 

They interacted with the youths and told them to remain strong and resilient and build their future despite the 

sufferings and consequences of 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

The orphans representative, Gatana JMV thanked Rwanda Patriotic Army under the leadership of his H.E President Kagame 

that rescued them from the hands of the killers and today care for their lives. He thanked RMH doctors who regularly 

provide medical care to them and other support such as paying health insurance known as mutuelle de sant and other 

support We no longer consider you as military, for us you are our parents.

One of the choldren who gave a testimony said that 21 years ago when they survived from 1994 Genocide against Tutsi, 

they were children traumatized living with no hope. But the government helped them to get shelters and education,

 and no in the village they have degree holders, others are married and have children, they have regained the hope 

of life and are grateful to the government of Rwanda 

In his remarks, the RMH Commandant, Col Dr Ben Karenzi said that RDF stay in solidarity with the Genocide survivors 

and has worked closely with the Fund for Genocide Survivors ( FARG) to provide medical treatment for diseases 

that resulted from the wounds of 1994 Genocide against Tutsi. He also said that RMH get time every year to be 

with Niboyi Peace Village orphans while visiting them, as a sign of showing them love and solidarity.

During the function RMH handed to orphans a cheque of one million and one hundred seventy one thousand for paying 

health insurance mutuelle and payment of security fees for the whole year.
